EdgeConneX, a data center operator with a dual focus on both edge and hyperscale facilities, today announced that it has agreed to acquire Global Data Center (GDC), an Israel-based data center operator. Specifically, EdgeConneX is buying from Viola Group, an Israel-based private equity firm with a focus in the technology sector, and Leon Recanati’s GlenRock Israel, a private equity firm.
Upon completion of the acquisition from Viola and GlenRock, EdgeConneX’s global data center portfolio will comprise ~50 data centers in 40+ markets around the world. Notably, EdgeConneX is owned by EQT Infrastructure, a private equity firm, through its EQT Infrastructure IV fund.
Global Data Center (GDC) – EdgeConneX Enters Israel
Global Data Center (GDC) was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in Herzliya, a hub for hi-tech companies and start-ups in Israel. The company operates two underground facilities in the Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area of Israel. Specifically, one sub-terranean data center is in Herzliya Pituach and the other is in Petah Tikva.
Additionally, the company notes that both data centers are in-line with the Uptime Institute’s Tier 3 global standards.
Herzliya Pituach – Data Center
Global Data Center’s facility in Herzliya Pituach comprises 64.6k sqft (6.0k sqm) of area.
Petah Tikva – Data Center
Global Data Center’s facility in Petah Tikva comprises 15 megawatts of power capacity (electricity supply) across 64.6k sqft (6.0k sqm) of area. Also, the data center has the ability to double in size to 129k sqft (12.0k sqm) of area.
Strategy
Under EdgeConneX’s ownership, Global Data Center (GDC) will accelerate its development and expansion by investing in new capacity in Israel.
Management
Moshe Lasman, Global Data Center’s founder and CEO, will continue to lead the business in Israel, under EdgeConneX’s ownership.

Global Data Center’s customers include Harel Group, Clal Group, IBI Investment House, Israel Chemicals, FMR Computers & Software, ECI Telecom, Infinidat, Varonis Systems, Zerto, and SolarEdge Technologies.

Beyond Global Data Center (GDC), Viola Group has made a number of investments in what it describes as the data center infrastructure & communications sector. Specifically, Viola Group’s investments in this category include:
