Echelon Data Centres, a hyperscale data center developer and operator in Ireland and the UK, with backing from Davidson Kempner and Pioneer Point Partners, today announced that it has secured an initial €855m ($970m USD) of debt financing from Starwood Capital Group. Specifically, this new debt financing will fund the construction of Echelon’s four data center sites in Ireland, which are located in the suburbs of Dublin (DUB10 and DUB40) and in the town of Arklow, which is part of County Wicklow (DUB20 and DUB30).

Echelon Data Centres – Overview

Echelon Data Centres started in 2019 and currently has six sites across Ireland and the UK. Collectively, these operational and development projects offer a total potential capacity of 440 megawatts of utility power across 2.3 million sqft (210k sqm). Additionally, Echelon Data Centres has “scope to grow” to 200 megawatts of utility power at its DUB20 site. In turn, this would bring the company’s total Ireland and UK portfolio to 540 megawatts of utility power.

Ireland Data Centers – Starwood Finances Echelon Data Centres

Starwood Capital’s €855m debt financing package will fund the construction of Echelon’s four data center sites in Ireland. Together, these Ireland development projects offer a total potential capacity of 390 megawatts of utility power across 2.0 million sqft (185k sqm).

DUB10 – Clondalkin (Dublin)

Echelon Data Centres’ DUB10 is located on a 35-acre site on the M50 motorway, 20 minutes from Dublin Airport. The site is less than 5 minutes from Profile Park and Parkwest in Grange Castle. Finally, Echelon expects the facility to be operational in Q1 2022.

DUB20 – Wicklow (Arklow)

Echelon Data Centres’ DUB20 is situated on a 100-acre site with an initial 35 acres being developed. The campus is located in the town of Arklow, which is part of County Wicklow. Specifically, the site resides along the M11 motorway, less than 60 minutes from Dublin Airport. Finally, Echelon expects the facility to be operational in Q3 2022.

DUB30 – Wicklow (Arklow)

Echelon Data Centres’ DUB30 is located south of Dublin in the town of Arklow, which is part of County Wicklow. In terms of timing, Echelon expects the facility to be operational in Q3 2023.

DUB40 – Grange Castle (Dublin)

Echelon Data Centres’ DUB40 is located outside of Dublin, in a data center cluster known as Grange Castle. In terms of timing, Echelon expects the facility to be operational in Q1 2023.

UK Data Centers – Previously Financed

Echelon Data Centres has previously received funding to develop its data centers in the United Kingdom. Collectively, these operational and development projects offer a total potential capacity of 50 megawatts of utility power across ~270k sqft (25k sqm).

LCY10 – Docklands (London)

Echelon Data Centres’ LCY10 is located in the Docklands, part of east and southeast London, and adjacent to Canary Wharf. Presently, Echelon’s LCY10 data center is ready for occupation.

LCY20 – Chesham (London)

Echelon Data Centres’ LCY20 is located 20 miles from central London in Chesham, Buckinghamshire. In October 2021, Echelon secured £182m of funding from Starwood Capital to jointly acquire and construct this data center. Finally, Echelon expects the facility to be operational in Q2 2022.
